In October 1999 Ricky began his first world tour which included countries he had already conquered like Italy, Spain, Germany, England, Australia, Japan and India. The "Livin' La Vida Loca Tour"was a phenomenal success. Ricky's "goal" was to connect with his audience and he was happy when fans would thank him for making them feel part of his little worl. A little perfect planet where no one is judged, and you feel like you are in heaven, to just be happy, let go, be yourself.
"Many people who have been in the industry for years become bitter and he hasn't let that happen to himself - he just refuses to become negative"
(Desmond Child)
Ricky's next album was "Sound Loaded" and, although not selling as many copies as "Ricky Martin", it was another success and saw the hit singles "She Bangs, Loaded" and the duet with Christina Aguilera, "Nobody wants to be Lonely"
rising high in the charts all over the world. Ricky embarked on a huge promotional tour for the release of "Sound Loaded" and made many appearances all over the world including performances at The Brit Awards, The Blockbuster Awards, The Worls Music Awards, The Logies, The Today Show in New York, a chance to return to Puerto Rico when he performed at the Miss Universe Contest and visits to England, Poland, Sweden and Denmark. There were many rumours during 2001 that Ricky was to start acting again and he "hinted" in some interviews that he was looking at scripts, but as at today these rumours have proved to be just that, and it seems music is still Ricky's priority.
After so many years on the road, a rest was long overdue. On July 10th 2001, Ricky celebrated 18 Years in Showbusiness. Ricky returned home to his new house in Miami to work on new songs from his next album and to spend his 30th Birthday and Christmas with his Family and friends in his homeland, Puerto Rico.
Even during his "time off", Ricky gave an interview for the Mexican Magazine "Eres", and made a cameo appearance on the Leno Show (where he signed the Harley Davidson up for auction following the tragedy of September 11th 2001 in the USA). In January 2002 it was reported that Ricky was back in the studio preparing the tracks for his next album and he won his first Award of the year for "Favourite Male Artist" at the first ever MTV Asia Awards, appearing via satellite link to say his thank you.
Desmond Child once said to Ricky:
"I think he takes his "mission" very seriously and he walks on stage with a majesty that relates to his spiritual path and we feel that we rise up with him".
As Ricky is often quoted saying:
"HOPEULLY THIS IS ONLY THE BEGINNING"
